Statistics show that half of the population with an income of less than $2.50 per day. This means that more than 3 billion people are unable to afford the basic necessities like food, housing and clothing. Millions of children will never have the opportunity to own a pair of shoes. According to the World Health Organization it is estimated that two billion people, mainly children (in over 100 countries); are infected from soil transmitted diseases– many of which end in death if left untreated. Due to these diseases children are unable to attend school. In most countries uniforms are required to attend school and parents can’t afford to purchase them for their children. These and other children need to work from a very young age, however, without shoes they suffer from foot lesions preventing them from working to help their families.
