According to the World Health Organization more than 2 billion people are infected with preventable diseases. Many diseases like hookworm and Schistosomiasis, a disease among children in some developing countries, can cause impaired growth and development and can lead to severe health problems later in life. Over 270 million children have no access to medical services and 1.5 million children die each year due to diarrhea, something that can be easily treated! If proper medications are made available and more resources are implemented, like clean water and proper hygiene education, this could be prevented.
Treating these diseases is extremely important as some of them can leave children with permanent disabilities and/or death.
